Sugarloaf Animal Hospital

Dr. Mark Simpson BVSc (Hons) MACVSc (Avian Health) CMAVA N5433:

Dr Mark is a determined veterinarian that believed a Veterinary Hospital that provided the pinnacle of veterinary care, for all animal species, would be a great place to work so set about surrounding himself with a team to make that dream a reality!

He is confident we are heading toward that goal, and is particularly happy with the addition of Kimberley to our team and another Veterinarian on the way.  We also have some great new developments in the way our patients are housed in the Hospital.

His pets at home include dogs, cats (actually lots of cats) barking geckos, axolotyl, Eclectus parrots and a Cockatoo.

The Simpsons dog, Rusty Rose recently got a big congratulations from our pathology lab, who had never seen such great blood work for a 19 year old dog! Go for it, Rusty!

Dr. Nicole Melhem BVSc (Hons) BAppSc (Equine): On Maternity Leave
After completing a degree in Equine Science from Charles Sturt University, Wagga Wagga and working in the horse industry both in Australia and overseas Nicole decided to take up Veterinary Science at Sydney University to further her  interests in animal health.

She completed her BVSc in 2005 with First Class Honours and returned home to the Hunter Valley to work in mixed practice, focussing mainly on horses.

It soon became apparent that there was a general lack of avian and exotic expertise amongst vets and with an increasing demand for this kind of work she joined the Sugarloaf team in October 2007.

Nicole has always had an interest in unusual and exotic pets with a small collection of pythons at home (pictured with Basil, a Centralian Carpet Python) and is enjoying working with the variety of fascinating animals we see here at the Hospital.

Dr Kimberley Earl BVSc (Hons)
Although born and raised in Canada, Kimberley started her veterinary career at the University of Sydney, graduating in 2005 with first class honours. After graduation she returned to Canada and worked for three years in a busy, mixed animal practice in northern British Columbia.   In between snowy calving seasons Kimberley was busy developing her skills in small animal medicine and diagnostic ultrasound. In late 2008 Kimberley decided that she missed the balmy Australian climate, and moved with her husband (and her golden retriever) back to the land down under to take up a position at Sugarloaf Animal Hospital. Kimberley has long been interested in avian and exotic practice in no small part due to her experiences growing up with a variety of different parrots and other pets. She is enjoying using her skills in exotic animal medicine as well as practicing the high standard of care Sugarloaf is known for.
