Services

Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of an annual physical examination. Thorough check-ups and preventive care can help alleviate serious health problems. We offer a wide range of veterinary services to keep your companions feeling their best:

Diagnostic and Therapeutic Services:  Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services to care for your pets' complete health care needs. We have an extensive in house pathology department frequently used to diagnose internal parasites or to ascertain other reasons why your pet is not feeling on top of the world. Prevention, however, is always better than cure and we recommend a screen of your pets faeces at least once a year in conjunction with a comprehensive medical check up in order to maintain optimal health.

Surgical Services:  Our state-of-the-art surgical suite provides for the performance of a wide variety of surgical procedures. We can perform surgery on any of the days the Hospital is open and pride ourselves on our high standards of inpatient care. Your inpatient nurse will contact you when your pet is in recovery and we stay in touch throughout the entire convalesence.

Anaesthesia:  We utilize the safest available human grade anaesthetics to provide an extra margin of safety, especially for our older or high-risk patients. We are proud to say all our surgical patients have fluid therapy throughout their procedure and we always recommend pre-anaesthetic profiles prior to conducting an anaesthetic. Using the most modern equipment, the patient's vital signs are monitored by the inpatient nurse during all anaesthetic procedures.

Radiology Services:  Our on-site, modern X-ray equipment provides high quality radiographs to aid in the quick diagnosis of many disorders. For example, we use radiographs frequently to diagnose heavy metal intoxication in bird patients. See this example of what this can look like:

Dentistry:  Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, dental X-rays, tooth extractions and minor oral surgery.

Laboratory:  Our in-house laboratory facilities provide for serum chemistry, hematology, serology, urinalysis and parasite testing. We also utilize commercial veterinary laboratories for specialized diagnostics and consultations.

Pharmacy:  We maintain a selected inventory of pharmaceuticals, vitamins, shampoos, flea and tick control products and heartworm preventatives to meet the needs of your pet. We carry a full line of recommended bird nutrition, including Dr Macs Organic Origins as well as a range of Hills Science Diet prescription and maintenance foods.

Individualized Flea Control Programs:  We develop programs for the specific needs of your pet and your own particular environmental situation. We will review with you the best ways to control fleas in your house, in your yard and on your pet and can arrange a home visit from a representative if we need to. Sometimes this is helpful to correctly access any environment factors inhibiting the success of our recommended product.

Dietary Counselling:  We will provide guidance regarding your pet's nutritional needs for each life stage, including dietary requirements for growth, weight maintenance and performance. Alot of the patients we see are suffering from a poor nutritional intake and this can usually be easily remedied. With any of our recommendations for change, we supply a full group of informational handouts to help you work with your pet in the change to a better life.

Behavioral Counselling:  We can provide advice regarding addressing problems such as excessive barking, chewing, spraying, scratching, digging, house soiling and aggression in dogs. We can advise and provide treatment for feather picking and excessive vocalisation in parrots and pet birds as well as as range of other issues seen in commonly kept companion animals. Our nurses have lots of experience and knowledge in behavioural modification and can arrange behaviour training consultations if required.

Bathing:  Routine and therapeutic bathing services in addition to full clips or assistance with furs that shed excessively are available every Saturday through summer to suit you.
